Description:

These 18th century reproduction stockings are made on antique machines with original patterns.

Some background info regarding clocked stockings:

Clocking is defined as "a short embroidered or woven ornament on each side or on the outer side of a sock or stocking, extending from the ankle upward." Although it's origins are barely recorded, the use of ornamentation at the top of the gore area on stockings goes back centuries. For example- In 1695, Isobel Hunter was bound to apprentice for five years to Barbara Henderson in Edinburgh to be taught "embroidery of all sorts, white seam, lace and stocking-working" as well as "drawing and draughts" and writing. By the early 1700's the hand embroidered clocking decoration could be imitated on the stocking frame.

Measurements:

My husband has shoe size EU 47 and sturdy calves and has no issue wearing these stockings, they reach above the knee. The stockings have plenty of stretch and can be worn by men/women/other alike, from women's shoe size EU 36. If you have very small feet and calves you could opt to wear them with garters/ribbons, like they did in the 18th century. I wear women's shoesize EU 41, have small feet and regular sized calves and wear them without garters.

Material:

90% cotton, 8% nylon and 2% lycra.

Tip:

You can wash them by hand or in the washing machine on wool/delicates setting. To keep them looking their best I would dry them on the washingline.
